#38: Kingdra

Kingdra is exceptional in the fact that it is the only dragon-type Pokémon introduced in the second generation. Dragon isn't even its primary type: it's its secondary type, as Kingdra evolves from the pure water-type Pokémon Seadra by trading Seadra while it's holding a Dragon Scale. Where Horsea looked more like a seahorse, Seadra gained some dragon-like features, but wasn't made a dragon Pokémon. That came in the second generation, when Gamefreak made an evolution of Seadra that looked more dragon-like than its pre-evolution. Because of its primary water-type, Kingdra is only weak to dragon, which makes it effectively one of the best Pokémon to use in-game (especially in the early games), because dragon-types are very scarce. I never used one, but I like Kingdra just because of its design, whereas somehow Horsea and Seadra never really appealed to me. However, Kingdra is stat-wise a very balanced Pokémon to use: it has good attack, special attack, defense and special defense, while also having a reasonable amount of speed. Kingdra's moves are not too scabby either, with its best moves being Surf, Waterfall, Hydro Pump, Dragon Pulse, Ice Beam, Blizzard, Return, Flash Cannon, Hyper Beam and Giga Impact. Unfortunately, that is not quite a diverse movepool, but Kingdra can pull these moves off easily, definitely because it's quite fast. It is by far not the strongest dragon out there, but it is the most balanced one. And admit it: just having one is cool already, isn't it?
